Prevalence of Hypothyroidism Among Patients With COVID-19 in Tehran City, Iran

Background and Purpose: Numerous comorbidities are involved in the severity of new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Hypothyroidism’s impact on COVID-19 is yet to be adequately understood. Thyroid disorders thought play a role development progress COVID-19. This study aimed determine frequency hypothyroidism among patients hospitalized patients. Materials Methods: retrospective cross-sectional was conducted at tertiary hospital Tehran City, Iran. Demographic information other specified data related our research, mainly comorbidities, were collected using structured questionnaire from electronic patient health records. A total 493 medical records used for this according inclusion criteria. Subsequently, analyzed with SPSS, version 25, descriptive analytic statistics. Results: The prevalence 13.2% (n=65) higher (13.4% vs 2.3%) compared general Iranian population. Overall, hypothyroidism, about 21 (32.3%) expired, whom 14 (66.7%) female, 7 (33.3%) male. In these patients, no statistically significant difference observed between expired discharged groups (Adjusted Odds Ratio: 1.04; 95% CI 0.59-1.83; P=0.87). As result, not linked an increased risk death. Conclusion: Hypothyroidism appears low. However, it seems more prevalent female gender but without adverse effects mortality disease.
